B. B. King with the Neville Brothers and Dr. John

On a spur of the moment decision, we decided to go see the Blues Festival at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA featuring B. B. King, The Neville Brothers, and Dr. John.

We arrived during the middle of the Neville brothers' set and they sounded pretty good but the show stealer was, of course, the King of the Blues himself, B. B. King.

At 72, King can still rock though the really cool music was played by the B. B. King Blues band, whose saxophone and keyboard work were particularly impressive. The keyboard work (particularly that of Dr. John who joined him on stage), was the highlight of the show for me. I'm not that familiar with King's recordings but he did play some stuff from his latest release, Deuces Wild, and a couple of new tunes which he had just recorded with his band. The set was way too short (about a hour and a half).

This was my first visit to the Shoreline Amphitheatre and I thought it was a great venue. It's similar to the Nissan Pavillion near Washington, DC though the atmosphere is far more festive. The acoustics are great. Though if you do go during a cool night, you might want to take something to keep you warm.
