The Wall

If you have not seen this movie, you should do so now. I shall include (without permission) the excerpt from the back of the video cassette: "Pink Floyd's landmark album comes to life in a truly original rock movie that's already become a classic. Rock superstar Pink (Bob Geldof) has had too many shows, too much dope, and too much applause. Somewhere in Los Angeles he sits in a locked hotel room, slowly going mad. Join him if you dare on his journey through the spiraling void of insanity where fantasy blends reality into a nightmare. Pink builds brick after brick in this `wall'---until the night he brings a young groupie to the hotel and lets out all his locked up emotions in a screeching climax that will rock your senses and carry you along with Pink, over the edge."

That about sums it up. The effects and animations are awesome. The movie leaves you depressed; I've seen this one several times and I cannot help contemplating my existence and purpose each time I see this. These lyrics also help in understanding the mood of the movie:

"So ya thought ya might like to go to the show.
To feel the warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow.
I got me some bad news for you, Sunshine.
Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel,
And he sent us along as a surrogate band.
We're gonna find out where you fans really stand.
Are there any queers in the theatre tonight?
Get 'em up against the wall. -- 'Gainst the wall!
And that one in the spotlight, he don't look right to me.
Get him up against the wall. -- 'Gainst the wall!
And that one looks Jewish, and that one's a coon.
Who let all this riffraff into the room?
There's one smoking a joint, and another with spots!
If I had my way I'd have all of ya shot."
